It doesn’t seem five minutes since I was filled with excitement when I heard we had been shortlisted for 5 top awards from ‘The Negotiator’, and before I knew it, the conference and the Award Gala Dinner arrived last Friday.
The daytime conference and expo were fantastic as usual, primarily it was great to meet up and catch up with the many friends of Hunters; from our franchise partners and superb suppliers, through to associates, colleagues and familiar faces, and chat about the challenges the leave/remain saga has brought, and our focus and strategy for the blank canvas of 2020.
The conference had some illuminating content from some great speakers- the majority of floor time was dominated by talk of ongoing updates and changes to regulation within the estate agency industry, the impact the election and Brexit issues may have on the property market as a whole and the way in which our businesses will run. Our new trading status in the European marketplace will impact through the core of our operational systems, from the supply chain right down to employment law- Watch this space would be my advice!
The keynote speaker was the larger than life John Bercow- freed from the restraints of his Speaker of the House of Commons role, he captivated the room with his wit and insight regarding Brexit and how he considers it to be , “the greatest foreign policy blunder of the post war period”. Mr Bercow went on to explain how even when Brexit happens, the divorce bill, the Northern Ireland issue, negotiating and securing trade agreements, global issues of human trafficking, national security and climate change will take around five years to untangle, leading on to another ten years of sorting it all out to the point of finality – my heart sank when it was pointed out we could still be discussing Brexit in 15 years- I had certainly hoped it would be off the agenda by then.
With plenty of food for thought, the day turned into night and it was time to upgrade my daytime sartorial choice and get into my tux. The grand surroundings of the Grosvenor House on Park Lane were brought alive by a vibrant, ‘The Greatest Showman’ themed evening, (for those of you that know me well, I love a good musical!) Once we had started to unwind with the champagne reception it was time to take our seats for the Awards Gala dinner- This year the awards were hosted by the actor and comedian, Tom Allen, who really made the evening a dazzling success.
As you may recall, I was thrilled when I found out that Hunters was shortlisted for 5 awards and am delighted to be able to tell you we came away with 3 top accolades.
We won the Gold award for ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’. Our company wide marketing strategy launched for 2019 has been a great success securing growth in brand visibility and customer/ client engagement- of course we must not forget the impact on brand exposure through the highly entertaining episode of Channel 4’s, ‘When I grow up’ featuring Hunters York Head office and Harrogate branch.
Hunters gained the Silver award for the Estate Agency of the Year (10+ branches) and we received a Highly Commended in the Regional awards for Yorkshire & Humber Agency of the Year.
The evening was topped off with the awards after party, after such an intense and long day, it was the perfect way kick back and begin to celebrate the festive season.
